Alright, so the topic name seems kind of misleading but here is the premise:

So i know this Taiwanese girl that I talk with on MSN on and off over the last few weeks. We use to go to college together but I graduated already (she is 3 years younger than me).

I have not seen here in about 3 years, but I thought I would try to meet up with her but since we haven't seen each other in a long time, I doubt she would come out to an initial meeting (in fact I know this just by the type of person she is).

So now, my plan was to try to get her to come out to a house party just so we could break the ice a bit more before I ask her out for lunch. Do you think I should go through my friend who knows her better (and has a higher chance of getting her to come to this party) or should I somehow ask her directly? If the latter, how do you think I should approach this without conveying too much interest? I am only trying to get to know her better.

i think you should go take the confident route... tell her that you should catch up and that she should come to the house party, but like don't make it sound desperate u know what i mean?
for ex)
you: hey do you want to come to this party to catch up
her: im kinda busy
you: alright maybe next time...

NOT
you: please come it'l be fun come on! so-one-so is coming plz...

so yea.. but if she has any interest in you whatsoever as a friend or otherwise, she will be there.. so just have faith/trust that she will come, and if she doesn't, then don't try to convince her too much.. i made a mistake in doing that a lot in the past
