I wouldn't do this. If she replied she's trying to converse with you. Your 'neg' would be like punishing good behaviour. Just ignore it as being a typical response and go into what you want to say.

I find that it is possible to say that, but you have to spice it up a bit. You could say, "so what's up?" She then has that blank look on her face. You can then say, "you can at least make up something interesting!"

From there you can tell her a far fetched story of your own to create humor. Hopefully she can make something up too, then you know shes a cool chick.
