ok so in class we have to get up occasionally and read what we wrote.. so this girl in my class that i have never spoken reads and she always smiles and honestly its an amazing smile...

so would a good opener/ice breaker be to go up and say "i couldnt help but notice during your reading but you have a great smile"

or is that too direct??

It's a good direct approach with a nice compliment, but it's not going to start a conversation so you'll need something to talk about straight after she acknowledges the compliment.

Off the top of my head, how about going with some C&F instead on top of the compliment.

So be more like:

Hey, that's a great smile you've got there (insert name), do you know where I can get one of those? Because (insert someone in the class who doesn't have a great smile) has been looking for one for months now.
