at the bar or whatever, talking to the obsticle of course. you throw in a compliment about her clothes, shoes etc.
what will the target be thinking?

Depends on the girl. She could think you're lame for hitting on her friend and give her the eyes to signal that it's time to go to the bathroom together, or she could get jealous and clamour for your attention. Which is probably what you're aiming for.

The real answer though, is who cares? If you're hitting on her friend as a way to make her jealous and try to get your attention you deserve for her to walk away cos you're trying to manipulate her instead of just being cool.
