Yes. Do it for you and for the betterment of your life. Do not get involved for the purpose of making others like you or having others validate you and build your self esteem.

As for the application of the material, find out and learn the concepts of 'frames' and possibly 'roles.' If you can master the frame of the interaction, then all the little pieces fall into place effortlessly.
