I tried to do it the other night. Told the girl my name was Ninja. We started talking about it and she was like, "Okay I'll be Ms Ninja." Kinda funny.

But I don't know if I could actually do it on a regular basis.

Most guys I know don't use one, because most people's aliases raise funny questions and suspicion that you're a player that is trying to remain anonymous. If your alias works as a name, or is a nickname that lots of people call you and it IS YOU, then you can get away using it. I use mine in field, but I also have most of my friends and even my gf call me Rye, because that's WHO I AM.

I call one of my students/friends Zig and when I introduce him into sets, that's what I call him, cause that's who he is to me, although he introduces himself as his real name. When I was out with Kinoescalator, we called him Kino and that's what he was introducing himself as, but I'm not sure if that's what he generally calls himself, or if it was just cause he was with other forum members that knew him by that.

So it's up to you. If they're gonna look at you funny and wonder what's up with your name, then maybe don't use it, but if you can sell it, then go for it.
