What to do when she shows signs of interest and hesitation?

Hi everyone!

As mentioned above, do you continue to push for it or back off?

For example, I ask a girl out knowing that she is busy as a deadline for a school assignment is nearing. I decided to ask her out next Friday to which she responded "I could come but i should be working on the assignment you know".

So yeah correct me if I am wrong but there are signs of interest (she could come) but hesitation as well (should be working on the assignment). In this scenario, should I subtly push her to meet me or I should not be selfish and back off by rescheduling it?
