Hi
There is this girl i used to know well on msn sometimes, i haven't seen or talked to her for a while, i dont think i should say hi to her because she may not reply and i would not be demonstrating my higher value. What should i do? i thought maybe i should type something and say something like 'oh sorry wrong convo' would this work?

oldest trick in the book but no dont do that...ask her a random question and dont start by saying hi, ask her a question about a song who sings it for example!!then just ask her how she is and say long time no talk!!

Should i just open with a neg like 'your screenname is crap' or something similar? I'ts a bit random to ask about a song when i have plenty of other people on msn to ask that too? Thanks for advice

No offence> but I can tell you are young, and inexperienced in the ways of the game. I would not think too much into the conversation, as it is only talk. Just say "How are you (insert name), have not spoke to you in while, anything interesting thats happened since I last spoke to her", this will then lead onto a discussion about what has happened to her, make sure you have things that are new in your life to tell her, remember a conversation flows both ways.
