A lot of girls are insecure about their bodies, but I'm sure thats something you already figured out for yourself. Society tells women they have to be perfect. They're comparing themselves to the power of modern technology to make women appear perfect on billboards and magazine ads. SO they're always aspiring to an unrealistic standard of beauty and because of it they're chasing an image they could never reach.

If you encourage them they'll get over it in those moments. They care more about what YOU think about them in that moment than they do about how they feel about themselves. They're looking to you for the leadership.

They try to blame men for it, calling them shallow, only a small percentage of men are like that. Most men that I know of don't care that much.

However I’ve been first hand how women will rip apart another women's appearance and degrade her and in the process make them selves more hypercritical about their own appearance.

How I handle it

Girl Friend: Have I gained 10 pounds
Me: I don't care if you did or did not.

After doing this for a while, she will either start getting jealous over, over-weight women, or stop being so harsh to her self, when she clues in you really don't care.
