If you work as a cashier can you use that to improve your social skills and inner game?

Slightly.

But its like practicing on an empty stage to prepare to perform at your concert. It will help a little bit, but nothing really prepares you for the moment, but going through the moment. Replicating it is not quite like the real thing. Theres no emotions and no real risk from conversing as a cashier. I'm sure there are guys that have been cashiers for 10+ years that get massive anxiety before approaching. Theres little emotional involvement while working.
