When you flake on a girl what's the best way to contact her

afterwards...

In this instance a call, but in general if you set something up like you said you'd call her at 9pm but you didn't would you call her as soon as possible to let her know your "sorry" or just tell her what's up or just wait until the the next day and don't even bring it up? Or do you explain what happened etc.

How do you address when you flake on a girl?
