What is an escalation window? Are they obvious?

For example, I was at a party with friends, and in this drinking game they were playing, a guy kissed me. I brushed it off with a joke about how I hoped that wasn’t the only action I got that night. Afterwards, this girl who I know fairly well (I always thought she seemed attracted to me but I assumed we were just friends) came up to me and was like ‘do you want a hug’ (I guess in response to my emasculation) which was kind of out of character for her because she is quite shy. Is this an escalation window?

I feel like I may be missing these signs because I think the conversations I have with people at social events or in social circle is a lot more innocent than it really is
