How to build comfort/connection

So I was out on this date with a girl and tried to build comfort with her and I realized my comfort phase could use work. I ended up talking about bad moments in there childhood and giving them advice about life. Very wrong.

What's the BEST and classic way to build comfort and connection. I need to understand it enough to do it a lot so please go into detail.
