| I did it and was happy with the result. It suposedly will fix your problem, but like in any other surgery there are risks involved. It may not work as well as you would expect. Some people complain about dificulties seeing at night, and especially driving at night, although that tends to be temporary. It may damage you vision even further. Or it may ultimately blind you.
As for price, some clinics charge by the eye, some do both at the same time and others do the "two for one special", like you are buying groceries. When I did mine I specifically asked the surgeon to do one eye at a time, although it costed more (mobilizing the team twice, two anestetics, two days in observation, booking the OR twice, etc). It costed more, but made me sleep a hell of a lot better, because if things went south I't rather have an eye patch and a bad eye than going blind.
Also, be careful of the place you choose. Some "clinics" operate on apartments or at the back of hair salons and offer cheap prices. Yeah, right... Find out as much as possible about the clinic, management and surgical staff. Go to the competent authorities in your country and check if they have all the permits required. Check if their health and safety inspections are up to date. See if any of them have been associated with negligence law suits. And at the slightest doubt, walk away. You only have two eyes, make sure you get the best healthcare money can buy.
As for how it goes, you need to have your vision problems stable for two years. No point in fixing a problem if your eyes are still degrading. Then you go to a consultation, make a battery of tests and if everithing is O.K. you go for surgery. It is only made with a local anesthetic because you have to keep your eye focused on a certain point, and that is a nerv wreck. At least for me it was. Then you may (or may not) spend the night under observation, they give you some biker goggles to make sure you don't scratch your eyes by mistake (that is a big no-no), wich you use for about a day (the same time you are forbidden to watch TV or look at the computer) and then you apply some drops for a while, in my case it was a medicine twice a day and some other stuff in case my eyes got too dry, wich I almost never used.
And that's it. Hope it helps.
