OP
I think this is quite a normal thing, basically women who work as shop assistant, cashier or even the chick who works on returns have an element of control over the interaction within their job role in their workplace.
I used to fall at this hurdle at times - just like with anxiety with an approach (AE) you've got to overcome it, try nibbling away at it rather than trying to take one large bite.
Pick up a couple of good shirts which suit your style and find the HB in question, just ask her for a female opinion on something, "I'm going on a date tonight and need something nice to wear, which do you think would look better?" Get some pre-selection going on and take little more control over the interaction. Just try this now and again to reassure yourself because I know you can could do it.

I'll feel ashamed when I stand at certain spots of the store. For example a grocery store I would feel that when I would stand at the candy part.....
This may be a little more complex, such as social compliance or a self esteem issue - But if you're doing shopping and stroll through the candy aisle, just remember you're entitled to be there just as much as anybody else is.
I will note, if you're planning to pick up a girl in a grocery store, when you're talking to a woman for a little while expect you're basket/trolley to come under a little scrutiny - Its unlikely she will call you out or intentionally embarrass you about it, but she could determine a bit more about your lifestyle from what's in there.
