Just one remark: Dont mind the fact that she walked off before you could say anything else. You only asked for the time. She doesnt expect to hear more from you and actually suddenly changing the subject in the middle of campus or street is transparant. If you would do that, 7/10 girls will immediatly know that you are in to her, that you find her attractive.
That is not a bad thing, but you need to be able to handle that. As long as you dont dare to tell her: "i am sorry, but i do find you attractive and i just wanted to talk to you" keep it simple. I am just saying.
You are doing good. however being small steps, they are steps nonetheless in the good direction. Keep it up!
