My question is based around the gaming method of getting the obstacles on your side first before working on your target. I suppose this is more applicable to the situation where the target is in a 2 or a 3 set with 1 or 2 of her less attractive friends. Her friends know that she is the most attractive one in the group and the one who gets all the attention from men. So yes it is understandable that they may wish to get rid of any man who approaches, whether out of not wanting to be left out, jealousy etc...

Now our method as pua's is to win over the friends first and get them on our side. Well, that's all well and good for the time being, but I've had experiences in the past where I have won over the friends, but as soon as they catch on that I am interested in their hot friend, the game is up and they switch back to cock-block mode.

So what is the best course of action here? Do I need them to like me even more before I start gaming the target? Or could I try and even introduce the friends to some of my friends?

I suppose normally people would use a wing, however none of my friends have ever impressed me as a wingman, they always fuck things up, so I tend to just go out with my friends, then go to work by my self.

I prefer wing-mans, even if they screw the things up they entertain the cockblockers, they don't need to engage them, they just need to talk to them.
So in this case i recommend you a wingman, that's why i get mine all the time. He's shitty but entertain well

About your main problem, that's because you engage them all and after you forget about them. They are not cockblocking you they are trying to get their attention back.
You have to gradually put them apart in this order:
- Approach and engage your obstacles neg your target
- Continue engaging your obstacles but stop negging your target and put her into your social bobble
- Engage anyone in the group (including your target)
- Start to engage only your target but don't ignore your obstacles.
- Grab your target's hand ask permission (to others) to take her just for a few minutes
- Isolate her from your obstacles and thats it
