I was sitting in front of a shopping mall trying to engage a target and just started telling a short story, when, out of nowhere, those 2 beggar kids showed up in front of us. One of them was asking for a buck, that's the only thing I understood since he tried to say it in English, besides that they were talking in local language.
I tried to completely ignore the kids, which is the tactic most often used locally, however they continued to bla-bla and were clearly distracting the target since she was not following my story but had her eyes fixed on beggars instead. I tried to raise the voice tone almost to yelling, but the kids started interfering by laughing loudly and also raised their voice tone so it was to no avail.
I asked the target who was clearly fixated on them "So what are they saying? Since I don't speak the local language". She said "Oh they just said you can give them 5 bucks bill if you don't have a 1 buck coin". Witty little bastards
I made a "Go disappear!!" gesture with my hands a couple of times, but it made kids just more aggressive and loud.
It would be stupid to continue like this and I didn't want to retreat from our bench, so I turned to beggars and told them in English "Listen guys! You are NOT going to get any money like this! Ok?"
One of the kids made a face for "ok boss, as you say" and gave me a high-five. The other kid pretended he also got it, he rised up a hand for a high-five but instead of high-fiving me he dodged the high five and showed me his middle finger. Then they proceeded to run for a few meters and stayed there laughing and pointing their fingers at me.
And there I was, a suit-and-jacket type guy who could easily pass for a local private bank manager, trying to figure out how to deal with 2 little bastards.
Local customs would be just to chase them and beat the shit out of them what I contemplated of doing, but I feared being unable to catch them or even getting in trouble with the police.

Needless to say I screwed up the whole story and the thing did not go down pretty well, so she ejected minutes after together with some guy who she was texting earlier.

How to deal with obstacles??

Ignore them completely. Do not even say "pardon?". You are a successful businessman, why would you converse with beggars?

The problem is you acknowledged them. Never shout. Ignore them calmly and walk away somewhere else.

Or you could have just given them a buck? If you are trying to portray a rich banker type image, then giving a buck to some beggar kids is only going to help you with the girl isn't it? Oh he's attractive, rich, and compassionate... Either that or ignore them and walk along side the girl directing her to somewhere out of their way.

This is possibly the best 'subject line' to a topic I've seen.

Maybe they were Hobo-gaming the target as well :)

You mention local customs so I'm not sure of the size of your town or city, but I'm in a large city with hundreds or thousands of these types - generally being polite and saying "sorry mate, no change today" gets a polite reply from them. Who knows if that would have worked for you though.
