I've talked to about 4 girls...I make them laugh a few times, they ask where I'm from, the conversations go fine but they never ask me for my name. My rule of thumb has always sort of been wait until a girl asks me what my name is, then I know I can number close.
Am I being a wimp? I feel like I should just go for it anyway sometimes. Why not?

If the conversation is going smooth and you see she is interested, just go for it.. There is no rule that she needs to ask you what your name is. If she does, great! Many times, people ask about the name to be friendly anyway. That might be a slight indication of interest but doesn't mean much really. Things you can look for to see if she is interested is whether she initiates to continue the conversation when you stop talking, whether she is smiling and touching her hair when talking to you, and notice her body language. Next time you are at the library, and you meet a girl you are interested in, ask her to go grab a coffee fast from the cafeteria with you or smoke outside if your both smokers.. This build more comfort and when you ask her for her number it would be easier to give it to you rather than rejecting you. _________________ In this world, you don't get what you deserve but what you fight for!
