should i be taking a friends advice

so i have a friend that gets laid alot (but he is also a know cheater).. i asked him for advice and im not sure if it the right way to go about it ...so him advice is to be the shoulder to cry on be there for them be there to listen and let them talk but dont get serious with them..but to me this sounds like go for the desperate ones be the rebound guy.. is this a way to go to be a pua..could be me but it doesnt seem like a good way to try...help
