I COMPLETELY agree. I hate it when I passionately feel a certain way about something we read in class, and when I discuss it with the teacher she shuts me down and shoves what she believes the author meant down my throat. Reading is more of an individualist thing to do.
Like Gatsby, I didn't find him to be "great" at all, just completely disillusioned and idiotic, but Hudson, my English teacher, tried so hard to convince me that he was some noble figure.
Even if she is right, she shouldn't try to sway me from my original interpretation of it.
