College introduction

So I'm going to college this year and wanted to know whats the best way to introduce myself to the class while showing higher value and maybe a bit of humour? I believe that we are asked to stand up and say your name and just a brief few things about yourself. I don't want to come off as too much of this 'try hard' attitude because that can be annoying. Any ideas?

Anything we tell you here would sound as "try hard" to your classmates since we don't know you. People will be able to tell if you have a ready phrase.

Your prof will typically elicit responses by giving everyone a questions to answer, like: What's your favorite type of music? Why are you taking this class? Do you have any experience with the information we will be learning in this class?

Just watch what others do and be sure to say everything confidently. Use situational humor if ya want.

Completely agreed. It's incredibly obvious when you've been thinking of the perfect thing to say and have been saving it up for several minutes, if not longer. Don't overanalyze any one particular scenario such as this one. You need to be ready to improvise at all times. The most talented comedians are those that can work with anything in their environment to create humor. The comedians that absolutely suck are those that have every single detail pre-meditated and can't handle a heckler or if something goes wrong on stage.

Thanks for the advice guys, your totally right. I can see what you mean when someone says something thats been planned in a 'word for word' way doesn't really come off as funny or higher value. While on the topic, what about when you first arrive at the class? Would it be cool to go around and talk to everyone to show DHV? Or any tips about what i could do around the college or in the class to be seen as a more alpha male role? 8)

It wouldn't hurt to show up a few minutes early and introduce yourself to the people sitting around you. Everyone will be nervous as fuck during the first week or so, and it'll not only make you look good, but make them feel more comfortable to be there.

Yessss. Don't forget to smile a lot and be easy going. About 95% of the class will just come in, find a seat, and be quiet. ALWAYS try to sit somewhere close to the middle of the room. Don't ever sit in the back, front, or the sides. I usually see people quietly remain there for the rest of the semester. You might be stuck with one of those awkward seats if you don't come a little earlier.
