I just got my textbook for a psychology class. Not to much surprise, In saw a lot of PUA terms in the index of the book. Have any of you guys taken a psych class and benefited your game because of it? I'm interested if this will teach me a few new concepts, or if the community has already discussed pretty much all of it.

I took a basic psychology class in college. It helped a bit. But if you really want to learn, pick up some books on the subject. Learning female psychology is extremely beneficial as it allows you to understand how the female brain works. General psychology is equally useful, though.

That's a good idea. I googled female psychology books and I stumbled upon The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine. I'll pick up a copy this weekend.

I'm 3 credits away from getting my Bachelors in Psychology. I think it definitely helps you understand people. But toe a fine line. People do not like to feel like they are judged or analyzed. Normally if you mention anything related to psychology to people they immediately put their guard up as if you are trying to mentally dissect them. People want to feel like they are individuals and that they are very hard to figure out and women are no different in wanting to feel this way.

But don't go into a class expecting to be able to improve your game because most PUA stuff is already psychology related. Social interaction, figuring out how people think and using that information in a positive way.. Its all psychology, whether its taught in a university or by a " pickup artist " . Same concepts.

Because some of the social dynamics and social situations are so similar to things I learn at school is part of the reason I joined this forum. 8)

I'm double majoring in media studies and psychology and can say that college psychology classes are not as practical as they should be.

If you want to be a good manipulator and analyze people well, first thing is to surround yourself with people who are natural at it.

Second thing is to do your own studying. Textbooks will teach you theory are are crumbled up to make sure that the average student can comprehend them.
They also have general ideas, hence not all students are getting all the knowledge they want. I've taken a gender studies class that was based on feminism because I was interested in the part of the course regarding marketing for females and representation of female ideals in advertising. (I want to ultimately have an agency that focuses on advertising progressive issues and female products) This was a four week topic which I appreciated fully; but the remainder of the semester I had to be stuck learning about a bunch of shit I didn't take care about. (However I can probably name more African American and Native American feminist lesbian activists than most people).

To repeat the second idea, is to study on your own. Set your goals and soak in as much knowledge about practical psychology as you can (assuming that's what you're interested in). Read specific books and practice practice practice on people around you.

Thirdly, communicate to as many people as you can.
