There are a lot of applications for pick-up in daily life. I won't try to list them all but there are several things.
-Body Language & Non-Verbal speach is HUGE! Learning to be a master of this and cold reading people can be super beneficial in almost any aspect of life, school, or jobs.
-Learning to befriend people and get them to trust you is an important skill to utilize no matter where you are.
-Being social opening people and learning to be comfortable talking to people in a variety of surrounding can help as well. Whether you are giving a speech in front of your class or just trying to meet new people this is good.
-Learning to handle rejection and failure in a positive light is a damn good lesson for any student to learn.
Again these are just a few little things but they have applications from pick up to college, the real world after college, etc. To be honest colleges should be working to teach a lot of these lost social skills to students so that they are better prepared for life outside the classroom.
