I got good grades but while I was in class I usually just sat there quiet because I'm afraid of public speaking and I didn't want to be rejected if I tried to make conversation with someone. I'm starting the next semester this Monday and I heard if you want to make friends then the first week is the most crucial and easiest time to make friends. I want to make at least 2 friends in each class so I can have at least some social proof before I talk to girls, In your experience how does a shy kid like me go about doing that? thanks.

Just talk to whoever you're sitting next to. It'll be easier to do this depending on the type of class. Some classes are straight lecture so there usually isn't any talking during class at all, BUT you can still come to class early and talk to people. Then you can talk to them after class also.
I've already established a group of friends in one of my classes this semester. All I did was literally talk to everyone around me. None of us even introduced our names to each other or anything, but we always talk. Now we're kind of like a small 'group' that always talks to each other and everyone else in the class just sits quietly. That's how it normally is in college from what I've experienced. However, if you have an HB in your class and you end up talking to her about anything, throw in a "I'm yeeaabuddy by the way" and she will 99.9% of the time tell you her name (unless she's socially awkward).
I've found that the easiest way to break from being a shy guy is to:
1. Arrive early
2. If anyone around you is talking, listen to what they're saying.
3. Chime in, but be confident/friendly about it
When I say be confident, I don't mean act like a hardass. Say whatever it is you want to say like you're talking to a friend you've known for a long time.
Trust me, you have to develop social skills and the only way to do that is to just be social. You get better and better at it. I was probably even more introverted and shyer than you are. The sooner you start developing your social skills, the better your college years will be. I regret being such a timid person for so long. I have only 3 semesters left so I wasted some good years.
Extra tip: Abstain from masturbation.
