I would think it depends on the compliment, I have watched youtube vids from and read the Game by Neil Strauss, "Style" he commented on similar situations.

for example
Her: "Nice Shirt" then touches you with kino,

You: "Why Thank you kind lady!"

That might be bad... maybe it would have worked in King Aurthers Time but times are backa$$words and you gotta be a little spicy with your pebbles and combacks

I might do something like
Her: "Nice Shirt"

You: "Thanks I made it myself" and point to the blantent POLO simble on the chest or something obvious gotta do it with a smile..

You can tailor it any way you want. just be creative

Depends what the compliment is, a compliment on looks I would deal with differently to a compliment on a achievement etc.

As for a neg I might just play along with and laugh
