The Rules of the Game and LFBF

Hi guys. I'm almost finished reading The Game by Neil Strauss and I really like his style. No pun intended. I was just wondering, since I am relatively new here, is "The Rules of The Game" a worthwhile read as a good starting point?

I have the following problems:
1) I can't get my head around using material, like openers, routines, negs etc etc. I don't "trust" them (yet)
2) I build too much comfort and they LJBF me
3) In my town 70% knows me and know that I'm a "really nice guy, I'm sure there's a girl out there for you"
