how come girls hate it when you say "I was checking you

I have tried this twice and both times I have got negative reactions.
This is when a girl is walking in front of me, I check her out, and I outwalk her (run faster so I end up in front of her) then tell her something about how I was checking her out.
If you are checking someone out that means you are into them and if you tell her, that means you are proud of your sexuality. so what's the problem?

update: I dont literally say "I was checking you out" I say something like "your hair looks so pretty, I was looking at it from behind, man, it's so sexy"

Girls dig it badly when I say it. So it must be the way you say it and you as a person. Try it some more. If it continues to backfire, erase it from your vocabulary.

All of that sounds creepy or incredibly lame. That's why it doesn't work.
