I disagree with this.

Check this video and prove me that i'm wrong about it. Sasha is asking within a few minutes and doesn't get rejected or something like that. This way you won't end up in awkward moments.

I can't hear the video posted by wall1e on my laptop SPAM so don't know if this is how Sasha found out but I normally tease them a bit or do something that makes them play up a bit then just drop in the classic "how does your bf put up with you"; if they don't have a bf... they almost always say so.

come on. in this video, he basically gets rejected by every single girl he approaches. abit too convenient that they all have boyfriends. THEY'RE LYING TO HIM.
