I was out today, just shopping with my brother, i wasn't approaching or anything. This is merely a social dynamics question
We were walking out of a shop, and a woman ( an employee ) was biking on a exercise bike, assuming she was doing a task.
I then said " Keep it up" or "Keep it going" and put my thumb up and smiled. Now i thought this was just a little comment being nice. She just laughed a little.
Now after we got out of the shop my brother said "You sounded like a condescending Prick" Excuse the language. My mothers view was that i would of been being sarcastic...
Would you off seen what i said this way, or just as a friendly comment? And has being social (even an odd comment to a stranger) being frowned upon. Is the world becoming less and less social to the point of no one talking to anyone...

Based on the words you used it could have been one or the other. You should be able to figure it out based on her reaction. what kind of laugh was it? and try thinking about your tone of voice.

She smiled/laughed a little, i had no intention of picking her up, it was a comment and something i wanted to say, what i don't like is the fact that you can't be yourself and say what you want (with-in reason, joking included)in this world. Now i may of sounded sarcastic but it was not intended like that. I didn't get her response really, i think she said thanks, but not sure. I wasn't looking for a "Thanks" or any real reaction, it was something that i wanted to say (impulse). I think people nowadays take things in a very negative way and think negatively of what people say.
"Keep it up" How sarcastic can that be??
"Your Doing so Well!!!!" - I can see this sarcasm but not what i said
Maybe i'm narrow minded.
