I find myself presented with this question often and I answer it quite logically. I show that I'm picky by listing the types of women I am not interested but I am wondering, is it really all that important? Would it matter if I just joked around and said, "Nice 400 pound, red headed, albino women *mmmm*...thats my dream girl." Is it a big deal?

Is this question being asked by women?! If a girl asks this, she basically is qualifying herself. If you describe someone close to what she looks like, you may score good points.

That being said, a good way to respond this might be: "I care a lot about personality, but I'd be lying if I said that the physical aspect is not important. Skin color and hair are not that important to me, but I do care about a woman with a beautiful smile and captivating eyes. (note how general that is since it can be applied to basically anyone)....."

The trick is never to get too deep in your preferences, but to keep a bit of the mystery. If that can't be avoided (assuming she persists with the questioning) just do what I mentioned earlier, and describe someone who looks like her but not EXACTLY how she looks like.

I came up with this one myself Im quite proud of it, describe her almost perfectly but change one thing about her example.

Her:So what kind of girls do you like?

''Well she would be shorter than me loves sports is funny has a nice ass blue eyes'' etc (at this point she will think you are talking about her so change one thing about her like her hair colour)and then say that.

No details, be mysterious. Predictable = boring.
