3 Second rule

In those first 3 seconds is it better to go straight for a 'girls fighting outside' story (I forget their proper name, please post the correct terminology) or just say something along the lines of Hi, why haven't I met you before, I recognise you from somewhere or something similar?

Say Hi to grab their attention then perform whatever opener you have. The three second rule just means you have three seconds to start talking to them.

The three second rule is just to get you going so hesitation doesn't settle in. I recently tried a pretty interesting opener that for some reason gets women laughing:

"Hey, I was actually pretty intimidated to come talk to you guys, until I realized you are normal...Hi, my name's____"

If done with the proper attitude, an opener like this should give you great results.

I assume that you are using the mystery method.

There are several different schools on how to approach and people will tell you different things depending on what their own perspective is.

But from your perspective, using a routine (canned opener) is what your method teaches. The other one is called a situational opener and you will have problems moving on from it.

The 3 second rule is not actually a rule, it is just a way to tell you that if you feel that it is difficult and scary to approach, it will get much much worse if you hesitate.
