Hey guys,

As someone who's just getting into the Game, I've done some searching and have found varying responses regarding the "survival kit", or the set of routines necessary to start sarging without stalling in every conversation you have. What do you guys think is the best way to get your toolbox started when you're first beginning? How many of each sort of routine do you recommend memorizing, and do you usually have an outline as to how you're going to put it all together? Or do you memorize them individually so you can jump through them in whatever order you want?

Additionally, how much "rehearsing" or practicing on your own time do you generally do in front of a mirror before using something infield? I took a theater course in college for my fine arts requirement, and one assignment required us to act out a scene from a classic play. My professor's most-emphasized advice was to know your lines in your sleep, backwards and forwards, so that you can start at any point and be able to go through it without thinking. Does the same thing apply to pickup, and if not, how well do you usually know a piece of material before you take it infield?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work guys--this forum has provided a great community to get my foot in the door and learn a ton.

Well each guy is going to have his own individual preference, 2-3 would enable you to go out practice. Keep in mind that 'routines' only help to initiate conversation, make a hook point plus a bit of rapport. You will need to hold up a conversation once the routine is over. which wont be difficult if the routines worked well.

Mystery made his students rehearse their lines, it will only help you to remember them so it cant do any harm

Thanks man, I appreciate the reply. I thought I read/heard somewhere that Mystery suggested knowing about 30 routines well for a solid 25 minutes of pickup, which should be enough to get numbers or maybe even a bit further? Is this the goal before going out into the field, or is it more like learn one at a time, try your routines and when the conversation stalls bounce to a new set?

Any/all suggestions and opinions are appreciated.

Its good to know routines but remember that routines aren't the game itself. Mystery is a bit outdated but still works. Most guys nowadays focus on natural game, which is basically making yourself into a man that naturally attracts women. The routines work great yes, but you need something else to bring to the table and let your personality shine through, otherwise all she will remember is your "routines" which aren't really you.

So yes routines are great but don't let them define you.

How does someone using a natural game approach practice and get better? The one thing that's very attractive about Mystery's stuff is that he provides a detailed "manual" for how to take steps to improve, whereas someone working on natural game (with David D.'s stuff for instance) helps you work on yourself but I never seem to know the next steps. Maybe I just haven't spent enough time learning, re-learning and internalizing. Any suggestions?

It sounds to me like you just need to get out in the field and practice more. Don't fear failure, it'll happen more often than you think. You just have to try, and try again. Find out which routines you like, which stories you tell that capture interest and remember to use them again next time.

It's all trial and error until you have developed your own basic theory and that's pretty much where natural game is involved. If we're all out there using the same openers, as in the Game, girls will start looking at you funny when you repeat the same opener she's heard 3 times before
