Advice for the high schooler?

So i'm still in high school, and instead of practicing at school and end up having everyone thinking in a creep, do you think its a good idea to try outside of school? like at a mall, or high school hangout spots? I read somewhere that its better to practice at school, but i rather not since i could f up and have to see these people everyday.
