Actually I have found a great use for POF and other dating sites. Take it with a grain of salt please. Okay so lately I've been using my profile to practice openers. I try and find the hottest girls I can. The ones I know...that are being bombarded by msgs and I take a quick skim of their profile, pics, headline and create an opener. I have to say that I've had great results with responses. I don't msg anything under an HB9. I want the hardest bracket of women to crack and soo far my openers have gotten really good. Because I made the fake female profile on POF i know what openers other guys are using and I make sure that I am as unique as possible. So before you test stuff IRL you can use it online, and see how she reacts. It'll give you an indication of what you need to work on. By the way I consider myself a 6/10 if i'm cleaned up maybe, just maybe a 7. I have absolutely nothing written on my profile, just used spaces to fill it up. I use my blank profile to neg/be playful with them.
ex. After she responds back to my opener, if i noticed that she hasn't clicked on my profile I say 'Hey come check my profile out, I worked extremely hard on it. Tell me what you think' When she clicks it all she will see is a blank page with a couple of photos. I'll get a msg back from her say 'LIAR!!!!! hahaha'
I am hard on these HB9's. I NEVER EVER tell these girls they are cute, have a great personality or that they are fun to talk to. Instead I make them qualify themselves to me, they need to bend to my needs.

You can test them, but the problem is they may not translate well in the real world. Just curious but how tall are you?

What you may want to do, is put up a outline picture of you and some random picture of something. Thats what I have for my POF profile with a short about me that kinda says nothing really.

There are fake profiles on POF, but it's correct that they're done by scammers, telling you to visit them on another site, not by POF. In that case report the profile to POF.

Adult dating sites (that are all pay based for males, to be able to send out messages, while females can get by with a feee account, as long as a male messages her first) are where the sites themselves create fake profiles, primarily to make up for the huge imbalance of male members to female ones. That's why about 80% of the time on those sites, you're having to ask a female if she's
even a real person and if she is, if she can prove it.
