not much subjective about purple grass, lol

it doesn't need a lot of room for interpretation.

It's like asking, "Why is the grass green?" It just is.

Imar,

I think that we're talking at cross purposes. I should also admit, the last actual philosophy class that I took was Introduction to Philosophy my freshman year of college. I've read numerous thinkers since then, of course (all of the ones I listed and a few more) but none of the classes that they've featured in have, strictly speaking, been philosophy classes.

Mack,

Fine. The grass is purple and the world is populated by unicorns.

Happy now?

Can I ask what you are studying? It's easier for me to understand your educational angle.

I was thinking about this last night and I realized something.

It has to do with cosmetics. As we all know, cosmetics and personal grooming make a huge difference in womens' appearance.

Women who spend a lot of time on their appearance-- brushing and shampooing and conditioning long hair, applying makeup, dieting, etc etc etc-- are almost always hot. It's hard not to be hot if you do all that, even if your face is 50/50.

People who concentrate to a high degree on their appearances are likely to be narcissists to one degree or another.

Perhaps, thus, there is a tendency for women who look very hot to have a tendency toward narcissism.

speak for yourself, please.

i've been through more than most women could imagine.

how exactly do you make the wide-sweeping generalization that life is "more traumatic" for women than men.
I think what he meant is that the way women take it, life affects their subjective mind in a more traumatic way. In other words, if the same negative event happens in the same way to a woman and a man, in general the woman will come out of the experienced more traumatized than the man.

At least, that's the view I take based on my experience. Whether that's something that is inherent to women, or it's a result of the way that today's society raises women, I don't feel I have qualification to answer (but if I had to take a stab at it, I'd say probably the latter).

I'm going to take a page from Mack 2.0's book:

However you choose. That's what I was getting at by saying that it's their subjective mind, but whatever way of explaining it works best for you. We agree.

Oh, I know. I just think that is a very funny (and useful) way of thinking about their behavior and reactions, which oftentimes seem extremely contrived and histrionic.

lol.

@ melissa, yes, i'm ecstatic now. thanks for asking. also, taking an overly philosophical stance on everyday issues is the mark of a pseudo-intellectual. please, give it a rest. no one needs to hear "Philosophy of the Subjective Matter of Perception Class 101". i've had several college courses on philosophy. enough to know what issues need to be debated in that matter. and they are the 'unanswerable questions of existence', they are NOT this issue. let me paraphrase and see if i can wrap your point up in one sentence "perception is subjective". did i do it? now, as simplistic as you might feel my response is, it's actually a perfect logical rebuttal to what you have suggested.

person A : grass is always green
person B : grass is green when convenient, purple otherwise

^ in this instance, the conversation doesn't even need to enter into some vague pseudo-intellectual philosophical realm, as it is clearly a case of inconsistency. now, if the grass was always purple, we could debate about perception. since it's only purple from time to time, it's probably a safe bet that we are just talking your run-of-the-mill emotional deviant.

as a side note, i've read a couple of posters on this board, who approach every topic from "should i have pizza for dinner tonight?" to "hows the weather?" with some sort of overly-complicated misapplication of philosophical/logical thought. it's incredibly obnoxious because it's a form of conversational terrorism as it's intended to intimidate the other participants by use of grandiose words to explain basic topics. the secret: this sort of word warfare doesn't make the person who utilizes look smarter, quite the opposite, it makes that person look like a fool who is over-complicating things because they don't have enough faith in the point they are making to stand on its own merits to be comfortable expressing it in the simplest of terms. think of it like algebra, which solution is truly "more intelligent":

2a - (-14) = 38 (overly complicated equation, thus we ... "simplify"

or

a = 12 (simple, efficient, expressed on most basic and brief terms)

so, please, everybody (for the love of god), let's stop overcomplicating things around us in an attempt to thound thuper thmart.

@ feek, actually a recent scientific study proves that women have FAR LESS ptsd (post-traumatic stress disorder) than men, even when working in life or death, actual combat, conditions. seems they are "actually less traumatized" than men by the same experiences. so the assertion to which i was responding earlier is just plain wrong.

Histrionic is indeed a well-chosen word.
