BUT do you look at them in the eyes the whole time? Say you've just bumped into someone you sort-of-know in the street, so you're stood like 2 yards away from them. You're looking into their eyes, and the conversation goes on for a good 5 minutes or so. Would you be looking into their eyes the whole time? I would be focussed on them the whole time, but 5 minutes of looking into someone's eyes direct is a bit intense!
I would like to answer this since I specialize in eye contact. Aside from sarging, I also use eye reading skills in work-related negotiations.
- When angry, it's typical for parents to say to their kids that, "When I'm talking to you, look me in the eye." The reason for this is that the full attention of the listener signifies his/her submission to the dominance of the one who is talking.
In the same sense, when a girl talks, you should maintain less eye contact when she talks to maintain your dominance. But when it's your turn to talk, you should maintain that eye contact to subtly show your dominance.
