I am new to this whole thing, but I am stuck now...
I am a freshman at a university and there are some girls that I like to go out with.
I have never been on a date and this dating thing petrifies me.
I am stuck as to now knowing what approach should I go for first. I mean I know in a club or a bar I can just go for it and get the attention of the other companions and then the girl of interest but I don't think I could do the same in university with closed social spaces and all.
There are two girls that I will give you more details about... (I am generally stuck from step one, but I want to give you these two individual details so you could help me better)...
Case one: a Russian girl who I ended up to be in her group for the class project. She has two friends that I see her sit in class with: a Russian guy (who asked me to join their group since they were short one) second person is a Russian girl not good looking at all. I have had eye contact with her several times but I can't get a courage to ask her out. I didn't want to be in her group bcz I don't wanna be just her friend.
Case two: a girl I don't know her name or her nationality. I talked to her twice. Very short. I see her randomly since we are at different classes and different program of study. I can't get the courage to ask her out.

As you can see I have problem asking girls out at univ.

Any help from you guys is appreciated.

Just chat with them, make eye contact, be a bit flirty, TOUCH them starting in a friendly way (arm, shoulder, back) and see if they are interested. If you think so, ask what they are doing later. Ask her what her number is so you can figure something out.

It's really not that complex or hard. The problem is in your head. If you have time, practice on some strangers that you won't see again. Talk to some girls at a coffee shop or something so the process is not entirely mysterious to you. It's a matter of experience.
