When i first open a set i try to choose a target so that i can pay less attention to her and neg her. But what i often find myself doing is going away from the game plan a little and i start negging all of the obstacles as well. I only do this when one of the obstacles set themselves up to be negged though, which by the way happens a lot, it's hard to resist. Is this a bad idea to neg the obstacles as well as the target? What i find will happen a lot of the time is i will start getting ioi's from the obstacles.
i think you answered your own question. You neg the target to get her to become interested in you...with that logic if you start negging some of the obstacles just as you would the target you inherently make them interested targets as well.
