I think I'm the right guy to answer your question since I usually come off as a douche on purpose, I haven't personally read mysterys book but go ahead and finish it and read David DeAngelo's attraction is not a choice while you are at it. Read that and you understand the psychology behind it.

What you have to do is not just be cocky, be funny, watch "the Roast" on TV its an exellent example on how to be cocky funny.
I think in your situation the best suggestion I can give you is: Try to not talk about yourself AT ALL, not even when she asks, talk about her. Talk a little less, don't steal everyword in the conversation, try to be funny, give cocky funny comebacks, it takes some practice but it can be done.
AND learn how to switch off cocky! You shouldn't be a douche trough out the entire interaction, when you kino escalate you cant insult her, you have to be smoother than that
