Confused about A1

I am a little confused about A1 and would appreciate some help.

After reading a few journals and that I am trying to understand how from A1 people are going to A2 with the target demonstrating to them DHV etc but are they doing this in the 3 set etc still or have they already taken the girls hand and isolated? It must be hard to do A2 and A3 in the set with the other people there? Surely they won't just stand there and watch? They will get bored whilst you are talking to their friend. I am confused about it! A min ago you were negging her, and now you are talking to her push pulling, teasing etc?
