I haven't quite mastered it myself, but I lean toward situational openers at stationary targets, i.e. food court, free sample booths, etc.

How did your success go?

Nice. The cool thing about sarging at shopping centres is that you can have an instant date, then and there. That is if you're both digging each other etc.

Like, for example, this worked for me a couple times:

ME: (in the middle of convo) Hey, I'm actually here to get some new (sunglasses, pants, etc., anything that's sold on the other side of the mall from where you are). I could really use a female opinion. This idea is a triple threat, because it gauges her compliance, if she accepts it's a big IOI, and it gives you stuff to talk about on your way to the sunglass hut, pants store, whatever.

If you're running mall game I can suggest a good opener. Go up and ask "Hey, I need some help with something. Do you know if there's a store here that sells communist flag t-shirts?"

Generally, the set will be confused and not know how to respond so after a moment follow it up with "Politics lately is just getting to be too much to handle. Republican, Democrat, I can't take it anymore I'd be better off sporting commie gear."

From there you can make stupid jokes about the whole thing, neg the target (you look like you spend a lot of time at the mall so I thought you'd know), or invite them on an adventure through the mall to search for a shirt that is almost definitely nowhere to be found.

I've run this opener before with a pretty good success rate. Then again, it works best during an election year.
