SORRY IF LONG, BUT WORTH IT, SEMI-HILARIOUS FOR FIRST TIMERS

So, tonight was the first night that i headed out to the bars with the sole purpose of spitting "game." i had a friend go with my, who had no interest in pickup, but he's been reading the same stuff as me and so he knew the game and was going to wing if necessary.

i was reluctant to open a set. nerves, etc. we sat and watched people for a good hour and saw guys approach and then shut down, we knew what they were doing wrong from the beginning.

we go to the next bar, he's egging me on to open. i have a set in mind. i go to the bathroom with the purpose of opening when i come back. come back, some AFC is there and i wasn't confident enough to open. i come back to our seats and he was talking to two girls (HB 8/7). me thinking "that fuck opened a set, but fuck i'll wing."

Me: (interrupting) aren't you going to introduce me to your friends?
Friend: this is [scales] he's the friend i was talking to about pickup lines and trying to convince to approach girls.

at that point i knew that i had been shutdown and DLV'd. so i stopped assisting as the wing, turned my back, sat down between him and the 2 HB8/7. at that point, they took seats across the bar and we ignored.

his opening, they asked if they could sit down, he said a friend was sitting there and then asked:

Friend: You look like girls who get picked up at bars (giggling). let me ask you a quick question. what pickup lines have you heard.

he opened and then he actually explained the VH1 show to them and told them about negs while completely ignoring and negging the HB8 he was interested in.

after they left, i figured, f*ck it, i came here to open a set. so i went back to the one i had originally planned to open and did.

Me: Excuse me, you mind if i ask a quick question, i need some girls opinions on this theory.
Girls (HB5/6/8, guess which one i was going after): ok
Me: Cats or Dogs?
HB5: Dogs
HB6: Dogs
HB8: Cats
Me: well i think that, on average, girls will be more likely to say 'cats' because you know there are crazy old cat ladies and dogs are 'man's best friend.
HB 8 : cats all the way
Me: she'd be the crazy cat lady.
Girls: blah blah blah
(the HB 5 eventually touches/gropes me)
Me: hey, hey, none of that, i'm not that easy.
HB 5 and HB8 whispering while i'm talking to HB6
Me: and no private conversations, share with the group
HB 5: have you seen that VH1 show, 'The Pickup Artist.'
Me: What show? no. why?
HB 6: because you came up and asked cats and dogs, what kind of question is that
Me: one for my theory.
HB 8: but you negged the HB5 when she groped you
Me: Negged? what's that mean
(By this point the HB 8 was leaning in explaining what negging was and about the show, ignoring her friends trying to pull her away. eventually...)
HB 8: what's your name?
(i ignore her and talk to HB 6)
Me: should i have used that? does that work? (cutting them off) what pickup lines have you guys heard tonight?
HB 6: (groping HB 8 ) this guy came up and was like, oh baby your so hot.
Me: no guys do that.
HB 8: yeah, he really did, tonight.
Me: if i were trying to pick you up, should i have done that?
HB 8 giggling.
Me: guys are fucking creeps
HB 8: what's your name (second time)
Me: [scales] what's yours
HB 8: (ignoring her friend pulling on her and leaning in to me with good kino IOI) [HB 8].
Me: cool, well it was nice meeting you.

I walk away, they leave.

Part 2: that group came back and the HB 8 was drunk and talking to some other AFC.

My friend had gone to the bathroom and didn't come back for a while. saw him in the corner talking to another girl. figured, "damn, he opened again, i need to." then i saw a guy come up on there conversation and figured i better go wing and shut him down if needed.

When i got there, the guy was already gone. apparently, he had asked the HB 8 (the same one from the set he opened earlier, she pulled him aside) to buy her a drink. my friend responded with "She should be buying you drinks." as earlier he explained the pickup artist to her. shutdown and semi-DHV.

i step in, make some comments, turn my back then walk away for him to close.

being that we were just trying it out, we didn't #-close or anything. but it was pretty exciting. looking to get back out there this weekend.

I can't believe i had to deal with the mystery bullshit on my first open ever. Thankfully, i had read this forum and heard about that trouble and ran with it. i was taken back, but didn't let it show.

Field tested: talking about pickup lines works. Cats and Dogs can lead to trouble.

i think you should wait like 2 weeks after the pick up artist ends, which is like in one week, So than you can use any opener without anyone talking about the show

If anything, you can use the VH1 show as an opener.

Group: sure
You: Have you ever seen that show "The pick-up artist"?
Group: OMG we love that show!
You: You think that shit actually works or is it staged?

(go into the routine with DHV/Neg not seen on TV)


At that point, they don't even realize they are being gamed. If they do, then play it off. Be honest with you

i have a jacket that looks "vintage" but i've actually just had for ever and that usually works. it did last night because they started messing with it and the button pocket and i stopped them with "are you trying to rob me?"

but mostly i just smiled and made eye contact as i walked in the bar to gauge who to open. The HB 8 was one of them that i figured i could.

Come up with original openers and you'll be all set. They won't recognize much past the opener. Furthermore, there's tons of material out there that wasn't on the show. I always thought crap like, "Floss before or after you brush" was retarded, anyways.

I agree. That "floss before you or after you eat" is kind of lame. That's something I would ask if I were happening to be flossing my teeth near a set. Other than that, it's a VERY odd fuckin question and most likely would have them on their guard more than anything.

I've found that a lot of good openers/potential negs can come with a rating scale.

PUA:Scale of 1-10, how hott do you think that girl is over there?
HB: That girl? She's probably a 7.
PUA: And how hott do you think you are?
HB: 8.5
PUA: Wow! Being generous with yourself, huh?

Many of the canned openers I've found would work so much better on a rating scale. Even the dogs/cats one. Just phrase the question like you already have an opinion and just want to bitch about it.

IE:

PUA: WOW! Scale of 1-10, how much do you hate cats?
HB: Actually I love cats.
PUA: You would, you do look like the old cat lady type.

Using a rating scale is easier to start a conversation and leaves you somewhere to go.

It can also be a DHV by showing how clever you are.

PUA: How much do you want to kiss me right now. Scale of 1-10. If ten was "Yes I want to, and in fact I'm going to right now" and 1 was "I want to kiss you as much as I want to see my parents having sex." What do you think.

HB: Probably about a 2.
PUA: Then you must love seeing your parents in porno's. That's twisted... You're sick.

to his credit, this was a social experiment that we had been reading about and wanted to try. he didn't realize what he said.

he said that he was just talking like he would to friends. but these people aren't our friends. so, lesson learned. and i guess i'd rather been shutdown my first time by my friend then some girl because nothing a girl would say at that point could be worse.

all you have to do is stop using those canned openers and be a little more original, or at least put a twist on it

if you dont want to worry about being caught by the show, dont say anything that sounds like its from the show

I went out with a couple of my bruhs, I had decided that it was time to lose that approach anxiety and open up my first set. I decided to approach a three set, with two hb8 and a hb 6. I approached them with the opener is kissing cheating and right away one of the girls starting saying something bout vh1, im like oh shit!!, the girl I was trying to talk to was really interested and told me her blah blah blah, the other girl said some blah blahblah, the girl that started the vh1 bullshit answered the question but kept wispering to her friend hb 8,. the other hb 8 and hb 6 seem interested eventhough that hb 6 kept wispering shit. I was going for the brunette hb 8 but it seem that the hb 6 was also interested eventho she knew where i kinda got the line from. Not gonna lie i kinda froze and it ended there because the girl knew what i was doing and at that moment i didnt know how to counter it.So i guess im trying to ask what new openers can i use, what should i have done in that situation and also if I had two girls interested from one set what should i do if they are both pretty decent? holla back fellas
