Started talking to this girl at the gym with her friend. Things went well (or at least I thought they did). She was really into me and I was able to get an email. She was on spring break so I wait until tonight and send her a text. She doesn't respond so I crack a joke and she responds that she's in a bad place right now after breaking up with her ex-boyfriend." She just wants to be with friends and family.

I then went the route saying I was in a similar situation a few months ago and knew what she was going through. If she wanted someone to talk to, I'd be willing to listen. She didn't write anything back.

What type of approach would you have done in that situation? Wait two weeks minimum to follow up? How would you have handled this?

If she has problems, don't make them your problems too. I know you're trying to be nice and accomodating but that shit isn't gonna fly. It's one of those situations where you have to just let her be. You've only just met her, she knows you're only offering to comfort her etc cos you think you'll get something out of it. Tell her to call you when everything is sorted out. Honestly, you don't want a girl who can't get over her ex.

I think "if you need someone to talk you can talk to me blah blah blah" makes you seem AFC... Although it IS the nice thing to do - and I wish more girls liked us 'nice guys' - but that isn't how you're supposed to respond...
That line is golden. You shoulda said something like, "Well we aren't officially friends yet... so how are you gonna hang out with me?" Or, "All I want to be is your friend and maybe become family...." haha

That's what I woulda done...
