| I like to approach when a girl is using a weight machine, because they typically have no idea what they're doing. I'm pretty experienced with weight training, so I'll walk over and say "Hey, I saw that you're trying to do a tricep extension... rather than allowing the bar to come all the way up, you should only raise it halfway..." from here the girl will usually say thank you for the advice, and you can follow up by talking about your background as a personal trainer, or the source of your knowledge about working out. From here, I like to transition to exchanging names with her, and then saying that if she has any questions about working out, feel free to ask. After this, I can say hi to her every time I see her at the gym, and it won't be awkward or weird, because we had that first smooth initial interaction. You can transition from saying hi, to asking about her weekend plans. If she says that she doesn't have much planned, you can ask her to go out for coffee. Most girls will say yes to a coffee date, because it has a built in time constraint, an easy escape option, and does not directly lead to isolation.
