How do you find out if a girl is alone and not with a guy?

I've seen some girls in cafes or malls etc, who appear to be by themselves and just as I am plucking up courage I find out that she's in fact with a guy who's just run off to get some food or come back from the bathroom. Is there a simple way of knowing that a girl is alone? Don't really care if she's already got a bf, just as long as he is not there! The appearance of a protective male could make things ... hazardous. :-(

It could make things hazardous. It probably won't get out of hand like you think it will. Really, you're setting up barriers for yourself. Just approach and attract. The only time you have to worry about a boyfriend is if she brings it up, which is a good indicator to cut it off.
