How do I approach a female that I haven't spoken to in a long time because it wasn't really going anywhere down to my own poor game?

I have a few girls I haven't spoke to in ages that I want to try and make something happen with now. This'll probably be done via text or messaging though at first.

Any tips or openers?

Well.....you could send a message saying the followings:

"Hey - I just saw your twin! Were you at such and such location etc."

"Hey GiRL! How come you don't call me no more?"
