Recently there has been a festival in my city, people went in there, few bands sang and there were a lot of good chicks. Standing with my friends in there, I saw a girl looking insistently at me so I looked back, but nothing more, as I was in my AFC days then.
So basically I am not sure how to approach them, should I use the same techniques as when I am in a bar/club or there's something else to do?

This situation should make it muuuuch easier to approach her.

1) She's giving you a non-verbal invite to come and talk her by deliberately looking your way (unless you have some strange deformity that catches people's eye.) Most guys have to try and get her attention first and then try to build interest and intrigue. If you've already got her attention, you've got a third of the battle won.

2)You're in a setting where people are forcefully mashed together (depending on how crowded the festival is.) This gives you an excuse to get closer to her. From there, your approach to her should just happen naturally. Whether it be joking/laughing at something that's happening, "accidentally" bumping into her, offering to buy her a drink (I would only do this if you went to get a drink at the same time or you've already started a conversation), there's many different ways you can break the ice here.

Just remember to highlight the strongest aspects of your personality, match her and the environments energy, and don't try too hard. Just be natural!

Festivals can be the easiest place to hook up with girls, especially ones were you are camping. If you see a group of girls looking to pitch your tent somewhere, simply shout over if they want a good camping spot and point to an empty place that's next to your tent if there is any. Then being a gentleman you will proceed to joke saying I suppose you expect me to help set up your tent. I tend to help set up the tent then when it's complete say 'Girls i'm going to have to check it's safe before you go in there' and just sit inside it and 9/10 they at least one of them will come and sit in there with you, which is when you can introduce yourself (If you haven't already).

If you are not camping or you can't do the above technique, then have something that will attract attention to yourself that will make you look desirable. for instance everyone at festivals drink a large amount of alcohol, so having something like a beer bong will attract large groups of people which in effect will make people come over to see whats going on. It's easy now though because you're centre of attention so you can just start talking to the girls and blanking the lads. Let the girls have a go and if they decline call them boring or something but warn them it's not for amateurs. this is effect will develop a bridge between you and that group of people and you will find that they will want to stick around you. May sound silly but It's worked for me countless times over the years

Sounds good mate, now I've gotta wait for the festivals to get on track so I can test it out. By the way if I am approaching a girl nearby that has been looking at me, what kind of opener should I try?

I opened up a few by saying stuff like 'Ha, so you've been rolling around in mud too!' From this I either got a laugh or they were actually confused wether or not I had been rolling around in mud or not! But either way it sparks of conversation and if they do look confused just carry on the joke like 'It's actually a comfy bed when your too drunk to get back to your tent' etc etc (Thought that up in my head in a second lol) but yeah festivals is so so easy to pull! In fact my friend reminded me of how he managed to get a girl back to his tent. The music was really lively and the crowd was rough and there were one or two mosh pits knocking around. Girls hate these and all he did was notice a girl trying to escape one, took her to the side and asked her if she was ok, she was like yeah yeah I'm fine and he was like cool, i'm hungry, fancy getting some food? and he ended up taking her back to his tent. easy peasy right?
