I would get some social proof by chatting with everyone at the gym, guys, older women, married couples, whatever. This also warms your social muscles up and is a good tip for any location.

You have to lower your standards of the conversation with a hot girl, just like you did with the strangers you just warmed up on. When you see a couple guys talking about sports you like, you don't sit there for 10 minutes sweating about what to say, you just say it! That's how it should be with women.

Being nervous is understandable, just start by warming up with your neighbors.

The benefit of reducing anxiety only lasts up to a certain point; after which you become too uncoordinated to run game smoothly. The key is to recognize the point where you’ve had just enough to minimize your approach anxiety but still retain enough of your wits to run proper game. Keep in mind that the more drunk she is, the less important it is to make a witty comeback. Hence, the loss of wit that comes with liquid courage usually doesn't matter much.

Eventually, alcohol becomes something you’ll almost always want to avoid. After you desensitize yourself to the feeling of being rejected (comes after consistently approaching and experience with women), the idea of approach anxiety becomes more bemusing than frightening. There’s just no benefit from drinking as the decline in your mental acumen has no corresponding pay-off. To add to this, if you run enough night game, you eventually learn to calibrate with drunk chicks even while YOU’RE sober.

On a side note, alcohol has barely any effect on a GIRL’S ability to run "game." Shit tests and all that jazz are deeply rooted within the minds of women, a girl won’t “forget” to throw hurdles at you unless she’s passed out, in which case you shouldn't be jumping over any hurdles anyways.
