opening was "hey lemme get your opinion on something..."
her: sure! (pretty optimistic fortunlately)
so a guy and girl approach a busy bar at the same time, who gets served first?
and so on...
little bit of small talk of how well put together her outfit was, and age and ethnicity etc.
then i left.
anyway. i'd like to use some different openings cause it was kind of hard to follow up after her answer... i just asked another question or something, changed the subject quick.

Holding successful conversations is something that takes practice and comes with time. Listen to what she has to say. Ideally, you should be waiting for a few IOI's and then launching into a DHV-heavy story about yourself. Build a little comfort and rapport and then you're right on your way.
Any opener will suffice, very few people will remember what you initially said anyways. If you're going to use canned material, then preemptively stack routines before approaching. I've opened sets with the stupidest of lines (I like turtles) and have had them be successful. Just keep good eye contact and be charismatic, the conversation will just flow.

Congratulations on opening! That itself is a HUGE step, not many guys have the balls to do what you did. Great job. And the fact that you stayed in set and got as far as you did is awesome!
Sent you a PM, hit me back if you're interested.
